Fairfax, VA., Sept 1 -- Ric Edelman, the renowned financial advisor, best-selling author and talk show host, has been named the No. 1 financial advisor in the country by Barron's*, the prestigious Wall Street weekly publication.
The list of "Top 100 Independent Financial Advisors" appears in this week's (Aug. 31) edition of Barron's.
Edelman is chairman and CEO of Edelman Financial Services, one of the country's largest independent investment advisory firms, managing nearly $4 billion for more than 11,000 clients nationwide.
"We are excited and humbled by this recognition," said Edelman. "All the credit goes to my team of advisors and our entire staff." Edelman Financial has 200 employees, including 40 advisors in Virginia, Maryland, New York and New Jersey.
The Barron's list is culled from more than 500 nominations, and is based on assets under management, the advisor's contributions to the firm's revenues and the quality of each advisor's practice. Edelman's firm is not the largest, and ranks dead last in average account size per client, a source of great pride to Edelman. "Although we serve a great many millionaires," Edelman explained, "the vast majority of our clients are not in the exclusive realm of high-net-worth investors. Most are middle class folks trying to pay for college for their kids while trying to secure their own retirement. It's an honor to serve them."
